How to Take Product Photos That Sell, Using Only Your Phone

Customers cannot touch your products online. Your photos have to do the selling. The good news is that you do not need an expensive camera. Your phone is enough if you follow these simple tips.

1. Use daylight

Light is the secret to good photos. Take your photos near a window during the day. Soft daylight makes colors look true and details look sharp. Avoid taking photos at night under yellow bulbs.

Turn off your flash. It makes products look flat and shiny in the wrong places.

2. Keep the background plain

A messy background takes attention away from your product. Use a white sheet, a clean table, a plain wall or a piece of cardboard. Simple backgrounds make your product the star.

3. Fill the frame

Get close. Your product should fill most of the photo. Customers want to see the details, like the stitching on a bag or the texture of a cake.

4. Take more than one angle

Take photos from the front, the side, the back and up close. If you sell clothes, show them being worn. If you sell food, show a slice or a portion. More angles mean fewer questions and more confidence.

5. Keep your phone steady

Blurry photos make customers doubt your product. Hold your phone with two hands, or rest it on a stack of books. Tap the screen on your product so the camera focuses on it.

6. Clean your lens

Your phone lens collects fingerprints and dust every day. Wipe it with a soft cloth before you start. This one step makes your photos clearer instantly.

7. Keep the same style

Use the same background and lighting for all your products. Your store will look neat and professional, like a real brand.

Quick checklist before you upload

  • Is the photo bright and clear?
  • Is the background plain?
  • Does the product fill the frame?
  • Are the colors true to real life?

If the answer is yes to all four, upload it. eVendor resizes and compresses your photos automatically, so your store stays fast on every phone.
