How to Write Product Descriptions That Make People Buy

When a customer looks at your product, they have questions. How big is it? What is it made of? How long will delivery take? Every question you answer in your description is one less reason for them to wait or walk away.

Here is a simple formula you can use for every product.

The formula: What, Why, Details, Next

1. What is it? Start with one clear sentence that says what the product is.

2. Why will they love it? Say how it makes their life better. Talk about the benefit, not just the feature.

3. The details. Size, color, material, weight, ingredients, what is included.

4. What happens next. Delivery time and how to order.

Example

Before: “Nice leather bag. Good quality.”

After: “A handmade leather bag that fits your laptop, phone and everyday essentials. The soft leather gets better with age, and the strong strap stays comfortable all day. Size: 38 cm by 28 cm. Color: brown. Ready in 2 days, with delivery in 1 to 3 days.”

The second one answers every question a buyer might have. It also helps them imagine owning it.

Tips that make a big difference

Write like you talk. Imagine you are explaining the product to a friend. Simple words sell better than fancy words.

Talk about benefits. “Waterproof” is a feature. “Stays dry in the rain” is a benefit. Customers buy benefits.

Be honest. If a dress runs small, say so. Honest descriptions mean happy customers and fewer returns.

Keep the first line strong. On eVendor, your store shows the first 15 words on the product card. Make those words count. Put the most important information first.

Use the full space wisely. You can write up to about 200 words. Customers tap Read more to see the rest, so add the details there.

Your next step

Open your dashboard today and update one product description using the formula. Then update one more each day. Within a week, your whole store will be working harder to sell for you.
